1 | Ho Chi Minh arrival | Xin Chao! Welcome to Ho Chi Minh, one of Asia’s most enchanting cities, full of culture and history. We are met at airport by our local guide and learn a bit about this fascinating country on the way to our hotel.Free time at own leisure .Overnight in Ho Chi Minh |
2 | Saigon | • We depart at 8.00AM from your hotel. • Our first stop is at the Reunification Palace, the former residence of the President of South Vietnam until the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975. Today this building is a museum and venue for official receptions. You can visit the “War Room” from where the South Vietnamese forces were controlled, and most poignantly, the room where the North Vietnamese army finally took control in 1975. • The nearby Notre Dame Cathedral, built between 1877 and 1883 is one of the city’s major landmarks. Neo-Romanesque in form, it’s the major seat of the Catholic religion in modern Vietnam. Next to the cathedral stands the Saigon Post Office. Finished in 1891, it’s another fine example of French architecture and is Vietnam's largest post office. • Next visit is to the War Remnants Museum, where exhibition halls display a wealth of images and war machinery. You can learn a lot about the Vietnam War here. • Afternoon visit Giac Lam Pagoda – Saigon’s oldest pagoda dated back to 1744 of which the architecture, layout, and ornamentation remain almost unaltered. The pagoda is a minor pilgrimage site for the sick and elderly as it contains a bronze bell that is believed to answer the prayers posted by petitioners when rung. • Continue to FITO Museum of Traditional Vietnamese Medicine. Its collection of 3,000 items including traditional tools, ancient doucments showns the development of traditional Vietnam medicine. • Final visit of the day is to Ben Thanh Market – a fantastic place for bargains of every kind! You will find absolutely everything here, including Vietnamese T-shirts, small souvenirs, beaded handbags, shoes, lacquer ware, coffee and tea. The market is a definite must-see site for Saigon visitors. • Overnight in Ho Chi Minh. |
3 | Cu Chi Tunnel – Cao Dai Temple | • We depart at 8.30AM from your hotel. • Take the drive to Cao Dai Temple in Tay Ninh, which is refered to a “Walt Disney fantasia of the East”. The religion is a hybrid of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism and Christianity. Above the main entrance is the all-seeing Holy Eye, the symbol of the Cao Dai sect. The interior is just as engaging as statues of Jesus Christ, Buddha and the Hindu god – Brahma stand side by side. Explore this fascinating site and attend the colorful noon mass held by the Cao Dai followers. It is an experience not to be missed. • Continue to Cu Chi. Before entering Cu Chi Tunnels, we watch a short introductory video showing how the tunnels were constructed. • Also on displaying are various mantraps and the remains of an American tank as well as numerous bomb craters made by 500 pound bombs dropped by B52 bombers. We then spend the next hour exploring the maze of tunnels to see the first-hand how the Viet Cong communists were able to survive in this underground network. • Overnight in Ho Chi Minh |
4 | Mekong Delta | • After breakfast at hotel, you transfer to Mekong Delta and Vinh Long province • Starts with a cruise among local barges full of fruits and vegetables in the colorful Cai Be floating market. An optional stop can be made at local workshops where you can see rice paper, coconut candy, pop-rice and pop-corn being made. Your lunch of Mekong specialties will be served in Bonsai Garden. Then a rowing boat will take you deeper into the countryside via small canals to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, passing by traditional wood and palm-leaf houses, and local farmers doing their daily work. After walking around the village, you can enjoy seasonal fruits when listening to Southern traditional music. • Transferred back to Saigon. Free to explore the city at night • Overnight in Saigon |
